International Women’s Day (March 8) celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and highlights the need for gender equality.
The campaign theme for 2018 was #PressforProgress, which means committing to change and taking action to ensure that women are seen as equals. One ways we’re showing our commitment to this important cause is by attending the 18th Annual International Women’s Day Breakfast and Auction in support of the London Abused Women’s Centre (LAWC).
For International Women’s Day this year, we asked our female Service Desk Agents what it’s like to work in a traditionally male role. We got a lot of very positive — and eye opening — responses.
My first taste of feminism came in 1980 when I was in Grade 8. My teacher, Ms. Burns, encouraged her female students to consider traditionally male jobs and other career choices that stretched us beyond what others expected. This was ground-breaking, seeing as only 20 years earlier women were pigeon-holed into teaching or nursing. Because of her, I knew I could become anything I wanted.
Today, I’m proud to work for a company that feels the same way.
We’re proud of the women of Start.ca and encourage more women to get into technology. Check out our careers page for a role that will help you grow beyond expectations.
